"The Bible Towers Of Bluebonnet"

It’s a long, lonely road

And I cannot protect you from the people who take you

And debilitate you

They take you away from me

It was then that we drifted apart

I was dragged into slacks, a tie

And into an office

And rarely again did we meet

But there still are some nights when I see

The one that I left at his knees

Saying, ‘Please don’t forget me, and don’t break your promise

The problem you had with me’

That when nothing stops the ache

And all they do is take

And when you can’t swallow

Lead, I’ll follow

It’s a long, lonely road

Now and again I remember how once I was running

And all for the feeling

And I hardly could wait to begin

And how they once sent us out on business where

We knew one another

I tried hard to fight you

But you never did that for me

And still there are times when I see

The one that I left at her knees

Saying, ‘Please don’t forget me

I’m sad, cold, and hungry’

I try and I try and I try and I try

I try and I try, but I can never forget

That when nothing stops the ache

And all they do is take

And when you can’t swallow

Lead, I’ll follow

It’s a long, lonely road

I’ve walked thousands of miles past all my denials

Of this can’t be all there is

To me

So where is the rest of me?

If the past is prologue then

Our opening’s over, we never got closer

And it never sat right with me

It’s weird, neither one was surprised

We found ourselves way down the line

So middle-aged, and so aligned

You’re here, I’m here, and we’ll be fine

Yeah

So when nothing stops the ache

And all they do is take

And when you can’t swallow

Lead, I’ll follow
